Leicester-based Arriva Midlands has bought Stoke-based transport business Wardle Transport. Wardle is set to retain its brand identity to "preserve the company’s successful brand and reputation".

Wardle currently has a fleet of 12 deckers, six coaches, 19 buses and 27 minibuses. It employs 105 members of staff.

Core services include private hire, school buses and football bus services, as well as a range of local bus services.

Bob Hind, regional managing director for Arriva Midlands, said: “This acquisition opens up a range of exciting opportunities for Arriva, such as NHS and special needs work, and we are very much looking forward to working with new contractors. We were attracted to the company by its excellent standing and reputation.”

Doug Wardle, chairman of Wardle Transport, founded the company in 1963. His business has carried out contracts for Stoke on Trent Council, Staffordshire and Cheshire County Councils and the NHS, as well as delivering school meals in Stoke.

He said: “Together, Wardle Transport and Arriva Midlands make a very good combination.

“Both businesses will be able to learn from each other, ensuring customers will continue to be served in the same dedicated way.”
