Three new appointments have been announced for the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire LEP. Among the appointments is Colin Walton, the UK and Ireland chairman of Bombardier Transportation, who will chair the board.

Peter Varnsverry, head of manufacturing at Laing O’Rourke, and the president of swimwear manufacturer Speedo, David Robinson, will also join the panel.

The board also comprises a Derbyshire & Nottinghamshire Chamber of Commerce representative which is Richard Horsley and the leaders of the four principle local authorities (Derby City, Derbyshire County, Nottingham City and Nottinghamshire County). The Duke of Devonshire, Peregrine Cavendish, will also sit on the board.

The appointment of a university vice-chancellor, which will represent the region’s three universities, will also be announced in due course.

A spokesman for the partnership said: “The members of the shadow board bring to the table a vast amount of knowledge about economic growth and business leadership. Working with the leaders of the four principal local authorities, the chamber of commerce and with the support of our universities, the shadow LEP board is very well placed to help the area grow and be prosperous.”

The Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire LEP was given the green light to form in October. The shadow board’s key task will be to set the LEP priorities and establish the board.
