Carillion starts £15m school scheme

Wolverhampton-based Carillion has begun work on a £15m academy building in Southampton. The construction company will build The Oasis Academy from an existing school on the site.

The Mayfield-based school is expected to be largely complete by January 2012, when some students will move in. All students, from two existing schools, will be on one site by September 2012.

Southampton City Council said in a statement: “This is the first step towards realising our vision for new and improved educational facilities. Better school buildings have a positive impact on results and the wider community.

"In the immediate future, this project is also a boost for the local economy in tough times, providing new jobs and opportunities for local businesses to work with our main contractor.”
