Northamptonshire "actively pursuing" LEP
Northamptonshire County Council has told Insider that it is “still actively pursuing” a Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) bid. The proposal – which was not approved in October – is the only East Midlands partnership which has still not been accepted by the government.
A spokesman for the council confirmed: “We are still actively exploring a Northamptonshire LEP.
“The fact that our bid wasn’t in the first wave of approved ones doesn’t mean it was rejected, it means we have more work to do on it.”
The spokesman added that the council was not resubmitting its bid, but refining the details on the original.
Northamptonshire’s bid was not confirmed among the successful proposals last month, when bids from Derby, Nottingham and county councils, South East Midlands and Leicester and Leicestershire were successful.
Partnerships now have until 21 January to apply for a proportion of the £1.4bn Regional Growth Fund which the coalition government has introduced.
