Invest in growth sector hubs - Nottingham campaign
The coalition government should focus public sector investment on growth sector 'hubs' in readiness for the economic upturn. That's according to business leaders behind the Invest in Nottingham campaign.
It points out how BioCity Nottingham, Europe’s largest bio-science business incubator in the city, has recently attracted national and international media interest with the publication of its research into UK life science start-ups.
It points out that 80 per cent of all UK life science research and 80 per cent of start-up activity is located in only four clusters, including the "bio-highway" between Leeds, Sheffield and Nottingham.
Roger Summerton, chairman of Nottingham Development Enterprise, said: “The time is right for Nottingham’s business community to work with the government for strong economic recovery.
"BioCity has succeeded beyond expectations and its success is being replicated internationally. By directing limited public and private resources as well as goodwill into our centres of excellence in science and technology, we will see significant results even within the next 12 months.”
The Invest in Nottingham Club has recruited more than 70 corporate and public sector members into a campaign which will bring investment, jobs and economic prosperity to Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.
