Jet2.com to double East Mids flights
Airline Jet2.com is set to double its number of flights from East Midlands Airport in 2011, it has announced. It comes after the company reported a "booming first summer" at the site, claiming it is the "fastest growing of the airline’s eight bases".
It is promising 180 per cent more seats, carrying 300,000 passengers from the airport next year.
It says it is the only "leisure airline to be expanding its operations at East Midlands Airport in 2011".
A second Boeing 757 is also set to be based at the airport during next summer with 39 new employees recruited including airport based staff, cabin crew and pilots.
Philip Meeson, Jet2.com CEO, said: "We are delighted that we’ve had such a successful first summer at East Midlands and are excited about our flight programme for 2011.
"We are very proud we are the only airline currently expanding our presence at East Midlands for next year. East Midlands is the Jet2.com base which is seeing the largest growth for 2011."
Jet2.com started flying from East Midlands on 19 May 2010, with the first flight to Paphos in Cyprus.
The airline has been operating routes from the airport to destinations including Turkey, Cyprus, Tenerife, Egypt, Corfu, Crete and Lanzarote.
