Keelys in 'plastic fuel' deal
Lichfield office of Keelys has acted on a deal involving a company which turns waste plastic into liquid fuel. Cynar, which has developed the technology, has signed and exlusive agreement with Berkshire-based recycling and resource managment company SITA UK.
The agreement will commission the building of Britain’s first fully operational plant to convert end of life plastic into useable diesel fuel which is likely to reduce sending mixed waste plastic to landfill sites.
Keelys corporate partner Hitesh Punjani, who worked with Cynar, says the agreement means the first of the plants will be commissioned by the end of 2011 in the greater London area, subject to planning permission.
With multimillion-pound investment from SITA UK Limited, ten UK plants will be built in total dealing with 60,000 tonnes of mixed plastic waste per year. Each plant is designed to convert approximately 6,000 tonnes of mixed waste plastic annually, specifically targeting mixed waste plastic diverted from landfill, and to produce in excess of four million litres of end of life plastic into specification diesel fuel.
Punjani said: “This was a complex deal dealing with new and unique technology which had to be completed in a tight timeframe. However we were delighted to be involved in this crucial agreement which will take Britain forward in its plastic recycling efforts."
