Harris Watson sells Hawick Knitwear
Birmingham-based Harris Watson has sold Scottish Borders knitwear firm Hawick Knitwear. Managing director Benny Hartop led the management buyout.
The value of the deal has not been disclosed. Hawick Knitwear manufactures knitwear in Hawick, Scotland while Harris Watson Holdings invests in knitwear and other textile companies.
Hartop said he was excited to be buying the business. He insisted it would not affect the terms and conditions of 200 staff in Hawick and Galashiels. He added that he hopes to build on the company's success over the last two years although it has been challenging competing against Far Eastern companies.
The move has also been backed by Scottish politicians with Roxburgh and Berwickshire MSP John Lamont reportedly saying he was pleased to see such a "widely respected" figure take over.
