Green graduate programme in line for award

Share | |

A graduate placement project involving a Stoke environmental engineering company and Keele University has been shortlisted for a prestigious award.

Project Green started in July 2009 and allows graduates to complete a subsidised placement with a local business while studying for a postgraduate certificate in sustainable business management.

Graduates have the opportunity to help businesses with issues such as environmental management systems, recycling, renewable energy and resource efficiency.

So far, more than 140 graduates have been placed with companies across all sectors with Stoke-based environmental engineering and consultancy Wardell Armstrong taking the role of lead private sector partner.

Wardell Armstrong provided mentoring for graduates as well as creating nine placements within its organisation.

From the first 70 placements, 40 graduates said the scheme had helped them to gain further work.

The project, which is funded by the Higher Education Funding Council for England, and match funded by public and private sector partners, has now been shortlisted in the open collaboration category in this Thursday’s Lord Stafford Awards. The awards aim to showcase and celebrate the best in collaboration between universities and business.
