The utilities division of Nottinghamshire-based North Midland Construction (NMC) has secured three new contracts worth more than £3m in total. The civil engineering and building specialist has signed deals with Virgin Media, Cable & Wireless and Geo.

The largest of the three contracts is for national network Geo and involves the installation of fibre optic cable around the Geo northern ring. This covers an area of 830km stretching from Salford to Glasgow.

NMC has also agreed a deal with Virgin Media, through which the company will be working on a project to provide greater width broadband for schools in Manchester.

Cable & Wireless has also appointed NMC to install 60km of cable across a network stretching from Sheffield to Tingley, near Leeds.

Martin Queally, managing director of the utilities division at NMC, said: “We are pleased to be able to build on our existing relationships with Geo, Virgin Media and Cable & Wireless. These projects all contribute to the growth of our utilities division and we look forward to working with these companies further in the future.”
