JLR sales boost Tata profits

Tata Motors, the parent company of Warwick-based Jaguar Land Rover, said its subsidiary “continued to show strong profitability” during the second quarter of the year. JLR recorded a profit after tax of £238m in its results for the second quarter of its financial year.

The car giant, which also has a base in Coventry, boosted pre-tax profits by almost £5m since the last quarter.

In its interim statement, India-based Tata said of JLR: “Both wholesale and retail volumes, improved favourably as compared to the corresponding quarter in the prior year, on the back of improved market conditions and continued overwhelming response.”

The parent company increased its revenue by 36.5 per cent for the second quarter of the financial year, which runs from March 2010 to March 2011.
