Bigwood tops the lot

Birmingham-based auctioneer Bigwood is the top lot in the Midlands according to the latest data from industry sources. Figures from auction data house Essential Information Group reveal that in the first ten months of 2010, Bigwood sold nearly £30m worth of land and property.

The auctioneer, which has another auction this year at Aston Villa FC, said it “could top £40m for the year” by the end of 2010.

This would mean a 20 per cent improvement on its 2009 result.

The Edgbaston firm, which also has offices in Colmore Row, Henley-in-Arden and Stratford-upon-Avon, has sold £30m of land and commercial, industrial and residential property.

Bigwood managing director Rory Daly said: “We are now firmly established as one of the leading auction houses outside of London, and one that local authorities and the institutions are increasingly turning to in order to realise value for their property holdings.”

Daly added: “Our 8 December auction at Aston Villa FC is set to continue the successful trend. In hard times, property owners turn to auctions in order to realise cash quickly and investors know they can find real value.

“We will be offering local authority lots from Birmingham, Wolverhampton and Sandwell, Bournville Village Trust and a number of properties in LPA receivership.”
