Galliford Try to construct Birmingham hotel

Construction company Galliford Try will build a 174-bedroom hotel in Birmingham. The company has secured a contract worth £16m to develop the hotel, which will form part of Birmingham’s City Park Gate development.

The four-star hotel, Hotel La Tour, will be constructed as part of the city’s development, comprising more than one million sq ft of mixed-use accommodation.

Hotel La Tour secured the site last summer.

The project is the second deal that Uxbridge-based Galliford Try has recently secured.

It won an £8.7m contract to construct a new motorway service area at Cherwell Valley in Oxfordshire for Moto Hospitality. The existing service area, on Junction 10 of the M40, was badly damaged by fire in April and the company announced then that it would have to be rebuilt, a process that would take months. It has been operating temporary facilities since.

Galliford Try’s chief executive Greg Fitzgerald said: "We are delighted to secure these two contracts, which demonstrate our broad expertise in the commercial sector."
