Green light for Birmingham health centre
A deal has been signed to create a £13m health centre in Birmingham. Attwood Green Health Centre will replace the city’s Colston Health Centre on Bath Row.
Heart of Birmingham, NHS South Birmingham, BaS LIFT and Prime are joint partners on the project.
The six-storey building, which will be located 200 yards away from the old health centre, will comprise more than 48,427 sq ft of space.
Two GP practices, The Hyman Practice and Bath Row Practice Medical Practice, will relocate to the new building along with a new NHS dental service and on-site pharmacy.
Nursing, physiotherapy, outpatient clinics, speech and language services, a stop smoking clinic and sexual health services will also be included in the new centre.
David Morgan, senior partner at Bath Row Medical Practice, said: "We are all delighted that the new health centre has been given the go-ahead. The current premises were a major advance 20 years ago and we need to continue to advance.
"The local population has grown and we need to grow with it as well as making use of technology to provide more safe and effective care from the health centre. It is going to be better for current and future staff to develop new areas of clinical expertise and that can only be a good thing for patients.”
