Wolverhampton-based Carillion has been awarded a contract to deliver a new railway station at Paddington in London worth up to £100m. The contractor is one of six to have been shortlisted for the 18-month Crossrail project.

Carillion will work on the Paddington Integration Project (PiP) alongside Bam Nuttall, Bovis Lend Lease, Laing O’Rourke, Morgan Sindall and Vinci.

Work to be carried out under the PiP contract includes construction of a shell and core for a relocated Hammersmith and City Line underground station. Additional work will also include resurfacing works and construction of a roof structure on to an existing reinforced concrete deck.

The scope of works also includes the design and build of the new Abbey Wood station, which is the terminus station on the south-east section of Crossrail, as well as installing overhead electrified railway lines and modifying five bridges on the route.

Tenders are currently being considered for five other central London Crossrail stations.
