Business hub rolls into railway station
Sleaford railway station is set to be transformed into offices and workshops. North Kesteven District Council has taken a 15-year lease on a 2,000 sq ft part of the station to be used by start-up and small businesses.
The £100,000 refurbishment project, which is part-funded by Lincolnshire County Council, will create between eight and 11 new workspace offices.
The council has agreed the lease terms alongside Network Rail and East Midlands Trains.
Workspaces in the new Sleaford Station Business Centre are expected to be available to let in January 2011. The project is hoped to create up to 25 jobs and up to 15 new businesses.
Councillor Marion Brighton, leader of the council and portfolio holder for economic regeneration, said: “As well as encouraging fledgling new businesses, we hope that by taking a lead in this area we can brighten up this part of the town.
“The railway station is an important historic building and a gateway to Sleaford and this work will help to give people arriving in the town by train the right impression of a vibrant town.”
