Northampton-based Briggs & Forrester Engineering Services has been awarded a £2m contract for mechanical and electrical services by BAM Construction, headquartered in Coventry. BAM is the developer behind The New Bramall Concert Hall at the University of Birmingham.

The project will provide a 450-seat music auditorium and also house the university’s music department. It will be equipped with new audio visual and lighting systems to provide a "world class" performance, teaching and research facility.

Briggs & Forrester was awarded the contract on a "design and build" basis with the university’s performance brief produced by Couch Perry & Wilkes.

The building completes the Chancellor’s Court semicircle which was created by the architect Sir Aston Webb in 1900.

A turf cutting ceremony took place in July 2010 and construction will be completed by January 2012.
