£30m housing scheme revealed

Two hundred new homes are set to be built on the site of the former Guest Hospital in Dudley. The £30m scheme will be funded by the West Midlands Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) and Dudley Borough Council.

Developer Wates Living Space, which has an office in Birmingham, has been assigned to deliver the project alongside West Bromwich-headquartered housing association Accord.

The two organisations will submit a planning application for the £30m scheme to Dudley Council next summer.

The companies' bid outlined how they planned to retain and regenerate the hospital’s existing buildings to create “landmark features” for the new development.

All 200 homes will be built to Level 4 of the Code for Sustainable Homes, meaning they will be energy efficient and low carbon.

Alan Yates, director of regeneration for Accord, said: “The site is steeped in history and we are keen to respect that by preserving many of its original features whilst also building the high-quality and energy efficient homes of the future.

“As one of the leading housing groups in the region, we are committed to continuing to build affordable homes to meet local need and are very excited about working on this high-profile project.”
