East Midlands companies race up Sunday Times list
Sixteen East Midlands-based companies have made the Sunday Times' Top Track 250 list. The list, which compiles the country’s leading mid-market private businesses, includes Northamptonshire-headquartered cereal maker Weetabix at number 27 and Northampton car dealer Allen Ford at 42.
Weetabix secured sales totalling £420.4m to improve on its 2009 placing of 43.
Also taking a spot on the list is Northamptonshire’s Langley Holdings at number 40, and grocery store Crown Crest, which entered at number 81.
Three Derby-based companies also made the list. Rolling stock lesser Porterbrook entered at number 54, car dealer Pendragon secured the 60th spot and Motorpoint of Derby entered at number 66.
Also inside the top 100 was Northamptonshire meat distributor Randall Parker Food at number 96.
Other East Midlands companies securing places in the top 250 were jewellery retailer Aurum, Shoe Zone, car dealers Drive Motor Retail and TC Harrison and budget retailer 99p stores.
Fashion retailer Paul Smith and car dealer Sandicliffe also appeared on the list.
Stuart Grant, UK head of corporate and structured banking at HSBC, the title sponsor of the league table, said: “It is great to see a significant number of privately-owned companies in the Midlands – including many which HSBC has helped to support – making such a positive contribution to the economy despite tough trading conditions.”
