West Mids companies storm Sunday Times list
Fifteen businesses from the West Midlands have made the Sunday Times' Top Track 250 list. The list, which names the country’s leading mid-market private companies, includes Willenhall-based budget retailer Poundland, which enters at number 11.
Poundland climbed from number 37 in 2009’s list to sit outside the top ten this year. It secured sales of £509m in the last financial year to ascend the 26 places.
Also inside the top 100 on the list were Stoke-on-Trent-based online bookmaker Bet365, which entered for the first time at number 29; communications support provider Telent, headquartered in Warwick, at number 45; and car distributor IM Group at number 48.
Other West Midlands brands which made the Tech Track 250 list include Alliance Medical at 98, facilities maintenance provider GSH Group at 116 and recruitment agency Pertemps at number 125.
Builder Thomas Vale came in at number 157, and social housing contractor Bullock was just behind at number 161. Animal feed manufacturer Lloyds entered at 166th place, followed by Redditch’s Johnson Cars, above care home operator Craegmoor, which entered at 199.
Drive Assist, Azzurri Communications and Palletways also made the top 250 list.
Stuart Grant, UK head of Corporate & Structured Banking at HSBC, the title sponsor of the league table, said: “It is great to see a significant number of privately-owned companies in the Midlands – including many which HSBC has helped to support – making such a positive contribution to the economy despite tough trading conditions.”
