Young Driver accelerates with EFG investment

A Birmingham-based driving school is expanding across the UK after securing a £180,000 investment. Young Driver received the government-backed finance through the Enterprise Finance Guarantee (EFG) scheme.

The year-old company is now seeking to open up a further three schools over the next two months after securing the EFG funding and sponsorship deals from Admiral MultiCar, SEAT UK and Pirelli.

Young Driver, which teaches 11-16 year olds to drive, already has venues in Birmingham, Kent, Manchester, London and Bristol.

The company said it had received “healthy interest” from young people wanting to learn to drive before they reach 17.

Kim Stanton, marketing manager, said: “One in five young drivers crash within six months of passing their test. Research from Sweden has shown that giving young drivers experience before they turn 17 can reduce road accident rates by 40 percent.

"Young Driver was set up to provide a fun yet educational environment where young people can gain important driving experience before they turn 17 years old. We were overwhelmed by the response.”
