Work begins on Mansfield council homes
Construction work has started on the first council houses to be built in Mansfield for more than 30 years. Mansfield mayor Tony Egginton cemented a commemorative date stone into place at the Bellamy Road Estate to mark the start of the regeneration scheme.
Loughborough-based contractor and developer William Davis is the council’s development partner on the project. The £5m development received half of its funding from the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA), and the other £2.5m from Mansfield District Council.
When complete, the project aims to provide 43 new family homes on the Colston, Shelston and Syerston areas of the estate. The new properties will replace a series of outdated flats which were previously demolished to make way for the three and four bedroomed homes.
Tony Egginton, executive mayor of Mansfield District Council, said : “This is a momentous occasion as it is the first new council housing to be built in Mansfield for 30 years. The scheme will breathe new life into the area and provide council tenants with much-needed high quality family homes that are energy efficient.”
Designed by NCHA Design, the new accomodation will be built to achieve a Code for Sustainable Homes Level 4 rating, with half of the homes benefitting from ground source heat pumps for domestic hot water and the other half utlitising photovoltaic tiles helping to reduce electricty costs.
