Royal opens £48m Roundhouse
HRH Princess Anne has officially opened Derby College’s £48m Roundhouse campus.
The royal took an hour-long visit around the campus, where she unveiled a commemorative plaque.
The college opened to about 2,500 students last year. Refurbishment work included the restoration of a Grade II building, a restaurant used by catering students and new teaching ‘pods’.
David Croll, the college principal, said prior to the visit: "The official opening is a milestone for the college as we celebrate what has been achieved in combining old and new to create a spectacular learning environment with 21st century facilities."
This is the second occasion that Derby has been visited by the royal family this year. HRH Her Majesty the Queen visited the city on 1 April to perform the annual Maundy money service at Derby Cathedral.
