A £1m school improvement project has been completed at Rolleston Primary School in Leicester. The refurbishment, which was designed by Leicester City Council architects, was constructed by Derby-based GF Thomlinson Building.

The project has created a new hygiene room, food technology facility, internet café area and a multipurpose classroom. A large raised external area has also been created with the potential to be used for external dining and teaching.

Councillor Vi Dempster, cabinet lead for children and schools will officially open the school today. She said: "The provision of these areas is very important to the school as a whole, as it provides the potential for members of the community to use the school in a variety of new ways. It is also really pleasing that the project involved everybody, school staff, pupils and members of the community."

Steve Jones, headteacher at Rolleston Primary, said: "We are delighted with the final outcome and the quality learning spaces we have can only enhance our children’s learning. We are very fortunate to have such a high quality environment in which to work."
