Largest automated car park in at The Cube

The UK’s largest automated car park has launched at The Cube in Birmingham. The three-storey below ground car park can store up to 339 vehicles.

It features the UK’s largest stacking system as well as the country’s first palletless transport technology.

Registered users can leave their car at one of four transfer garages, where it is scanned and transported vertically to the parking area using an automated lift. One of six palletless conveyor systems is then used to shuttle the car towards an empty parking space, placing it directly on an underground concrete shelf.

Returning to the car park, drivers will scan in their pass at the transfer garage for their vehicle to be safely returned. The system will also turn the car round to allow the driver to exit the car park.

The system was manufactured by German company Wohr.

Neil Edginton, director of The Cube project, said: “When we were designing The Cube, we wanted to offer a car park that would be just as iconic and ground-breaking as the building itself, as well as being inherently secure for vehicles and users, so this system is the perfect fit for the scheme.

"We’re delighted to have the UK’s largest car park stacking system here in Birmingham and we are now opening its doors to people within the city.”

Season passes for the car park are now available.
