Work has begun on the £4.5m project to extend the Bosworth House building at De Montford University. Local businesses are heavily involved in the project.

Mansfield's Herbert Baggaley Construction is undertaking the work, which will involve refurbishing and building a new eight-story tower and refurbishing a 1970s concrete tower.

Leicester based practice JSP Architecture is working on the project. The goal is to achieve a "Very Good" BREEAM rating.

Umesh Desai, deputy director of estates at De Montfort University, said: "The refurbishment works will bring a new lease of life the building and will complement the recent investment by the university in the construction of the nearby Hugh Aston Building and Magazine Square.

"This refurbishment continues to build upon the university’s masterplan for the campus and reinforces our aspirations to retain and upgrade existing buildings."

Ian Baggaley, managing director of Herbert Baggaley Construction, said: "It is a challenging project with regards to the restricted site area and logistic issues and it needs to be completed within a relatively short programme of 48 weeks."
