Plans for Infirmary site in Derby unveiled
Derby Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has displayed revised plans for housing and retail development at the 20-acre former Derbyshire Royal Infirmary site.
The proposals are for a major mixed-use development, incorporating 60,000 sq ft of retail space, together with more than 450 homes.
There is also scope for offices and a hotel at the site, which the trust has proposed is branded the Nightingale Quarter.
The city council has earmarked the site as a possible location for an Olympic-size swimming pool and the plans demonstrated this could be achieved within the overall development.
David Grose, operations director of project managers MACE, said: "We have received some very positive feedback from a cross-section of businesses - not just those in the immediate vicinity of the site, but also from companies that are interested in what benefits the development will bring to them and to Derby as a whole."
An outline planning application is set to be submitted to Derby City Council later this year.
The proposals for redevelopment follow the relocation of major acute services to the new Royal Derby Hospital.
