Radleigh begins exclusive housing scheme
New homes which will only be available to people with links to the area are being built at Middleton-by-Wirksworth by Derby-based developer Radleigh.
The £1.7m scheme – which is being developed on behalf of Derwent Living – has been designed to prevent local people being “priced out” of their own rural community.
The development, which is due to be completed in spring 2011, will provide 12 houses and two bungalows.
All the homes are being constructed using natural materials such as stone and slate in keeping with the upland village’s limestone buildings.
Tom Finnegan, joint managing director of Radleigh, said: “We think it’s important to offer affordable housing to local people not only in city centre and suburban locations but in sought after rural areas too.
“For this reason these homes will only be available to people who have close links to the village.
“There is often a shortage of suitable housing in the countryside for people such as young couples starting out. We’re pleased that this scheme will enable such residents to remain in the community where they grew up or where they have family.”
