Santander to create Leicester jobs

Share | |

Spanish bank Santander is to create 400 call centre jobs in the UK at sites in Leicester, Liverpool and Glasgow. The employees will be in place by the end of March next year.

The bank said the jobs, in addition to 600 branch-based roles announced in July, would support business generated by its aggressive push into the UK market.

It first entered the UK market with the takeover of high street lender Abbey in 2004, and bought mortgage bank Alliance & Leicester and the savings business of Bradford & Bingley two years ago.

Santander now employs 22,500 staff in the UK. Earlier this year, the company said it was on track to open a million new accounts for the second year in a row, and posted a 10 per cent rise in pre-tax profits to £875m for the first six months of the year.
