MADE for Newhall Square

Property developer RO St Bernards (ROSB) has let the first floor of 6-7 Newhall Square, Birmingham, to Midlands Architecture and the Designed Environment (MADE).

MADE, which is the architecture centre for the West Midlands, was established to raise the standards of architecture, landscape and urban design across the region. It has moved to Newhall Square from Fazeley Street in Digbeth.

The organisation has taken a six-year lease on 1,970 sq ft of office space at 6-7 Newhall Square. It employs eight full and part-time staff and has an expert panel of 40 built environment specialists including architects, artists, engineers, designers and urban designers.

Funded by Advantage West Midlands, the Arts Council and the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment (CABE), MADE runs training courses, exhibitions and networking events for those working in the built environment.

David Tittle, chief executive of MADE, said: “Given that our mission is to raise architectural standards, it is important that we practice what we preach.

“6-7 Newhall Square was specifically designed as a low carbon building, without the need for air conditioning. The façade, glazing, wall insulation, solar control blinds and natural ventilation make it one of the most energy efficient buildings in Birmingham.”
