Tory policies help businesses, says MP
Nuneaton MP Marcus Jones has defended the Conservative Party’s controversial budget cuts, telling the region’s business leaders that the coalition government “has tried to create conditions for businesses to increase job opportunities”.
The Conservative MP met about 30 business leaders from the area at a Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce event at Nuneaton Town Football Club.
He added that the government “was right to tackle the deficit”. He said: “We had to try something different. The deficit was getting bigger and we needed to rebalance the economy.
“It is not without its challenges to some businesses and jobs over the coming months but reducing the deficit was vital to keep interest rates lower for longer, both to protect jobs and the future of public services, which would be under even greater pressure if we don’t get the deficit under control.
“But we’ve made a start in trying to help businesses create jobs in the future – by cutting corporation tax on a stepped rate from 28p to 24p and down to 20p for small companies.”
