Nelson looking for new kick-off at Ilkeston Town
Dean Nelson, the man in charge of selling Ilkeston Town Football Club, claims he has received “numerous” enquiries about buying its assets and reviving the team for the 2011-12 season.
Nelson, who is head of corporate recovery and insolvency services at Smith Cooper Accountants in Derby, was appointed liquidator this week after a winding up order resulted in the company being placed into liquidation.
Nelson is now wishing to obtain expressions of interest in order to sell the leasehold interest in the club to secure the future of football in Ilkeston.
Although the club has been wound up and fixtures will not be played in the 2010/2011 season, Nelson is in the process of applying to the Conference League for involvement in the 2011/2012 season and has confirmed that interest has been shown from parties wishing to form a new team.
He said: “Ilkeston has not been able to meet its fixtures and unfortunately the club has ceased to trade prior to my appointment, the players have been released due to the fact that the company could not meet its debts as and when they fell due”.
“I am therefore looking to sell the club’s assets which comprise its leasehold interest to try and protect the continuity of the club for next season albeit it will be in a different league due to the Conference Rules on a club entering an insolvency process”.
“I have already received numerous expressions of interest from parties wishing to purchase the leasehold interest but wish to request serious expressions of interest from any other interested parties by close of play Friday 24 September 2010.”
“Erewash Borough Council - the landlord - has voiced its commitment and support to the ground continuing as a football club. The manager is also keen to continue his excellent work and there is of course widespread support from the loyal fan base, so selling the leasehold interest is a viable proposition for any new owner.
“With Ilkeston Town FC, I am hopeful of finding a serious buyer for the club and heralding a new dawn for this club which I see to be a vital part of Ilkeston and the surrounding area.”
