Public transport in Nottingham has been given a £1.6m boost after being granted an investment from Yorkshire Bank. Nottingham City Transport (NCT), the city’s main bus operator, has added eight new vehicles to its fleet.

The company will now offer 13 bus routes around the city, including two new routes, one serving Sneinton Dale and Bakersfield and another stopping off at Woodborough Road, Mapperley and Gedling.

NCT marketing manager Anthony Carver-Smith said the investment, funded by Yorkshire Bank’s Nottingham Financial Solutions Centre (FSC) on Castle Meadow Road, was the biggest investment in the firm’s network in almost a decade.

The new journeys will increase the number the company operates to more than two million a year.

Carver-Smith added: “The new buses all have the latest high qualify features including leather-effect seating, a larger wheelchair and buggy bay and improved internal customer information and will help us increase the number of trips we make across the city network each week to nearly 38,850, which is an increase of about 8 per cent.”
