Businesses missing out on IT opportunities, says PwC

Businesses in the Midlands are wasting money by failing to roll out business systems as fully as possible, according to IT experts at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) in the Midlands. The firm said that “a great opportunity is being missed” through IT systems’ unexploited potential.

Although companies are investing in popular systems, in many cases these systems are not being optimised and fail to deliver the expected benefits and the return on investment which was planned, said PwC.

The firm said that companies could be using such systems to strengthen relationships with customers and suppliers during any market recovery.

Chris Wight, business systems specialist at PwC in the Midlands, said: “Business systems can take longer than a year to put in place and this is a significant investment of time and money at the best of times, more so during a downturn.

"If this investment is not fully exploited then a great opportunity is being missed – not just in using key IT systems better but more importantly in delivering enormous value by helping to strengthen both supply and demand chains and improve efficiency.”
