HCA invests £773,000 in Arnold housing development
Work to redevelop Killisick Court in Arnold is set to go ahead after the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) agreed to invest more than £750,000 towards the cost of building new housing on the site. Margaret Allen, director for HCA East Midlands told Insider that the project would "address the need for more affordable homes and tackle the blight of a redundant building".
The £773,500 funding means that work can soon begin to demolish the former elderly residents' complex to make way for 20 new affordable rental homes.
The site will be developed and managed by Derwent Living, who successfully tendered for the project in November 2009. It is hoped the development will be completed by Autumn next year. The former elderly residents’ complex has been redundant since 2006.
Councillor Bob Tait, portfolio holder for Strategic Planning at Gedling Borough Council, said: "We are absolutely delighted to hear that the HCA has agreed to put forward this money to help develop the site, which will provide much needed family homes in the area. We look forward to working with Derwent Living on the project and creating a development we can all be proud of."
Margaret Allen described the project as “a major housing priority for Gelding”.
She added: "We are supporting it to help realise the Borough Council's ambitions. The project will also rejuvenate a derelict site, offer good value for public money as well as benefit the local economy by offering local job and training opportunities."
The development will include a mix of one-, two- and three-bed homes. Derwent Living will be using local contractors to carry out the work and aims to source local materials for the build.
Derwent Living will contribute the remainder of the development costs. Gedling Borough Council contributed the land.
