Businesses to have say on A453
Business leaders in Nottingham are being asked to support the call to widen the A453. Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Chamber of Commerce said that business operations and investment decisions are being affected by the decision not to widen the single carriageway trunk road between Nottingham and the M1.
After plans to broaden the road were shelved earlier this year, an online campaign has been launched identifying the benefits a broader road would have for businesses in the region.
It is thought the road widening scheme, which could cost up to £194m, would deliver estimated economic benefits of more than £320m to the region.
Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Chamber of Commerce recently brought together a group of local MPs, authority leaders and key businesses and organisations which will lobby for the delayed scheme to proceed.
George Cowcher, chief executive of the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Chamber, said: “The widening of the A453 is the region’s key transport priority. This project will play a crucial role in promoting economic growth across and helping businesses to create jobs in the East Midlands over the next decade.
“Despite the ongoing pressures on the public finances, the Chamber believes that the economic benefits that this project will bring will far outstrip the cost to implement it."
