Birmingham continues software focus

Share | |

Birmingham City University has signed a deal to work with software developer 5G Technologies. The collaboration, which will take place with the school of computing, telecommunications and networks, is designed to support government policy on energy efficiency.

The school will initially provide consultancy services to 5G, which is a global IT services company. The work will involve the integration of maintenance and energy management software into companies and the university anticipates that collaborative research opportunities, including knowledge transfer partnerships, will develop.

Ananth Seshan, chairman and managing director of 5G, said: “Our company has a good history of nurturing bilateral academic partnerships. Our strategy is to kick-start the development of intellectual property, which is the core of our business, by investing in long-term joint research activities performed under the auspices of a PhD or Masters programme.”

The move follows news that an MSc in enterprise systems management will be created alongside a scholarship and a new training facility at the university.
