The proposed Central Business Quarter in Chester could create 1,100 jobs, according to a council report. The proposals, being discussed today, would create 870 jobs in high-value knowledge-based positions.

Members of Cheshire West and Chester Council's executive will discuss the plans, which could deliver 500,000 sq ft of office space and 150,000 sq ft of retail and leisure space south of the railway station.

The scheme is expected to take up to 15 years to complete. More than 80 written responses were received during a six-week public consultation process.

Councillor Herbert Manley, executive member for prosperity, said: "Approval of the Business Quarter Development Framework will be a major milestone in our plans to realise the city's full commercial potential.

"Consultation has gone extremely well and revealed very strong interest among residents and businesses in the area.

"We have listened very carefully to what everyone has to say particularly with regard to traffic, access and egress issues."

"If approval is received we will begin discussion with the land owners and the prospective development partner on phase one with the intention of submitting a planning application later this year."
