More than 300 historic properties and places in the West Midlands will open their doors between 9 and 12 September. Locations such as Stourbridge Town Hall and Beatties department store in Wolverhampton will be open to the public, free of charge.

Stourbridge Town Hall will open its doors for the public to view the backstage, dressing rooms, control room and its Victorian box office.

At the Beatties department store in Wolverhampton, visitors will be given an exclusive preview prior to the official opening of the new "Heritage Room". The room explores a "century of retail history at the Wolverhampton flagship store".

Suzanne Carter, English Heritage Outreach manager for the West Midlands, said: “With over 70 towns, villages and cities in the region taking part in Heritage Open Days there really is an attraction around every corner, each with a compelling story to tell.

"Staffed by volunteers who are passionate about their buildings, neighbourhoods and heritage, the breadth of the properties opening this year is quite remarkable. There are also scores of hands-on activities providing something for all ages.”
