Indian businesses look to invest in Birmingham
West Midlands businesses hope to strengthen links with their Indian counterparts at a trade event taking place in Birmingham. "Vibrant Gujurat – The Jewel in India’s Crown" will be held on 13 September, and delegates will be able to discuss trade and investment opportunities.
Gujarat is one of the most industrially developed states in India, contributing 16 per cent to India's total industrial production and 21 per cent to the total trade.
Major investments by Tata Group and by Essar Steel have brought links between India and Birmingham into focus over the past months.
A senior business delegate from Gujarat will be present at the trade event, which is being held by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). It will be held at the Latitude Club, Barclays Corporate, in One Snow Hill.
Businesses in Gujarat have recently made investment in sectors including chemicals, drugs and pharmaceuticals, auto and engineering, IT, power and ports. The state is also a leader in the production of cotton, castor, cumin, denim, processed diamonds and iron sponge.
