Denby takes Burleigh Pottery
Derbyshire-based ceramics manufacturer Denby has acquired pottery producer Burgess Dorling & Leigh for an undisclosed fee. The deal was advised by law firm Wright Hassall.
Burgess Dorling & Leigh has produced Burleigh ceramics at the city’s Middleport Pottery since 1889.
The acquisition involves the listed Middleport Pottery building, along with all company branding and trademarks.
Robert Lee, head of Wright Hassall’s corporate finance team, said: “Burleigh Pottery has a long and illustrious history not only in Stoke-on-Trent but far further afield.
“We are delighted to be involved in a deal which secures its long-term future and will see the brand prosper again. Denby is now planning to reinvigorate the brand, build on its existing successes, and end the insecurity which has surrounded the company for some time.”
Leamington Spa-based Wright Hassall had previously advised Valco Capital Partners, the private equity arm of restructuring specialist Hilco, on itsacquisition of Denby Pottery in 2009.
Denby, which celebrated its 200th anniversary last year, employs more than 600 staff.
The fee of the acquisition was undisclosed.
