Willmott Dixon to work with Spark Challenge

Willmott Dixon, the regeneration, construction and support service company, is planning to take part in a Dragons’ Den style competition to find new social enterprises that can provide homeless people with opportunities for employment and "independent living".

The company, which has offices in Nottingham, will support businesses in the Spark Challenge 2010, through which applicants compete for a share of an investment fund worth £1.6m.

The 2010 challenge is the first time that applicants will receive mentoring from the private sector.

As one of the six selected project partners, Willmott Dixon will work with two businesses to develop a sustainable business plan and investment case to help them pitch for £650,000 of investment.

Pre-construction director for Willmott Dixon, Nick Gibb, is based in the group’s Nottingham office. He said: “Twenty people will be involved from Willmott Dixon across two teams. Our management trainees will mentor a business and provide them with access to commercial, legal, marketing and practical skills.

“In doing this our management trainees will be exposed to challenges which fall out of their normal day-to-day roles and develop improved analytical and problem solving skills.”
