The chief executive of West Midlands housing association, West Mercia Housing, has resigned. Howard Farrand said that he is leaving the company “to pursue other interests”.

Farrand, formerly chief executive of Coventry-based Whitefriars Housing Group, took the top job at West Mercia when Whitefriars joined the business.

Pat Brandum has taken over as group chief executive.

The housing group owns and manages about 23,500 homes across the West Midlands.

Roger Griffiths, group chairman of West Mercia Housing Group, said: “Howard has been tireless in his commitment to Whitefriars and latterly to West Mercia and it has been a pleasure to work with him.

“Over the years he has displayed both foresight and strong leadership. Howard has promoted West Mercia since becoming chief executive and has ensured that the group is a highly respected regional force that continues to fight for people to have pride in where they live."
