Southwater receives £9.5m investment

Share | |

The Southwater area of Telford town centre is to receive a funding boost of £9.5m from the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA). The funding is a major step towards the region’s £250m regeneration.

The agency’s contribution will provide the final part of a £28m funding package which will deliver the first stage of regeneration.

The redevelopment of the borough – which is being carried out in partnership between Telford and Wreckin Council and the Southwater Event group - will transform an area of the town centre which runs from the shopping centre to the International Centre.

Plans have been submitted for office space, a learning and media centre, two hotels, bars, restaurants, cafes, shops, a leisure hub with space for a swimming pool and multi-screen cinema.

Apartments, town houses, a community medical facility and a new Meeting Point House are also planned for the site.

Engineering work is due to start on site in December.
