Westfield starts work on £40m Broadmarsh upgrade
Westfield, owner of the Broadmarsh shopping centre in Nottingham, has released the first images of what the new £40m refurbishment of the outdated mall will look like. Work has already started on a four-phase project which Westfield hopes will transform the image of the centre.
Phase one aims to transform the spaces currently known as Listergate Square and Lower Broadwalk. Modification works include two new centre entrances and three reconfigured major store units (MSUs). In addition, one new mall cafe along with additional work will be built alongside the Listergate refurbishments completed in 2008.
Phase two aims to increase and support customer footfall in the Lower Broadwalk/Tanners Walk junction, says Westfield. The reconfigured units at this junction will consist of two large reconfigured shop units and an in-line cafe with mall seating.
Phase three will bring a new food court with nine separate places to dine plus additional mall improvements to Upper Broadwalk, which Westfield says will create a focal point for the centre, joining both levels of the mall with the Bridlesmith Gate development.
Finally, phase four will transform the retail space currently known as Drury Walk, with three new shops and a casual dining restaurant. The design will allow views into the gardens behind the Paul Smith store.
Earlier this month, Peter Miller, chief operating officer of Westfield, said: "We announced earlier this year that we intended to undertake a series of asset management initiatives which will represent a multi-million pound investment in the Broadmarsh.
"The works are designed to reposition and enhance the existing centre by reconfiguring the retail space and attracting new retailers into the city.”
