A Derby business centre is seeing an unprecedented level of enquiries from potential new tenants.

The Brian Clough Business Centre (BCBC) has already achieved 80 per cent occupancy levels and in recent months there has been a significant increase in interest for the remaining units from both start-ups and small firms looking to expand their operations.

Managed by Derbyshire Enterprise Agency (DEA), the centre in Cotton Lane houses a total of 19 self-contained units and is already home to a wide range of small businesses.

The latest company to expand their operations on the site is Harvey Taylor Vehicle Management. Specialising in the servicing and repair of 4x4 vehicles, the firm first moved into BCBC three years ago and proprietor Ian Wilson says that when the time came to expand, taking on a second unit was the obvious thing to do.

“We have been more than satisfied by the facilities here, the location is good and the support from the centre manager has been excellent,” he said.

“The on-site security is also impressive and we have been able to get on with our work without having to worry about the day-to-day management of the site.”

Wilson said he had also been impressed by the range of business support that was on hand from the DEA itself and the organisation’s connections to Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Chamber of Commerce.

“We’ll be looking for more help as we expand,” he added.

DEA deputy chief executive Scott Knowles said: “The centre continues to be one of the most popular locations in Derby for new and expanding businesses that need accommodation facilities combined with access to key elements of business support.

“We’re delighted to be achieving such robust levels of occupancy at a time when trading conditions certainly aren’t easy and the level of enquiries we’ve recently been receiving is also good news.

“Our existing tenants include firms operating across a variety of sectors and the centre is undoubtedly attractive because it offers 'easy in, easy out' lease terms, high levels of on-site security, ample parking and meeting rooms.”
