Derby business in awards running
A product which cleans dental equipment has put a Derby-based company in the running for an innovation award. Quadralene, which makes "Bioclear", has been shortlisted in the "Innovation Achieved" category at the upcoming Lord Stafford Awards.
The business says it identified a gap in the market when it expanded into the dental industry. Quadralene says it wanted to create a product capable of fully removing biofilm which also maintained water quality at drinking water levels from equipment used in surgeries.
The company created a "visual system" which it says is capable of showing the removal of biofilm in real time. By using biofilm grown from genetically engineered fluorescent bacteria, the company says it was able to demonstrate the effectiveness of the Bioclear chemical definitively.
The new method is now being considered for use in an ISO standard method for evaluation of biofilms.
The project was a collaboration between the company and the University of Nottingham’s school of biosciences.
