We'll expand beyond expectations - Roger Bullivant

Engineering business Roger Bullivant has told Insider it will expand “above and beyond” expectations following South Derbyshire District Council’s resolution to grant planning permission for an industrial and housing scheme near Burton-on-Trent.

Chris Chatfield, estates manager for the Staffordshire-based company, said plans to develop Drakelow Park had been ongoing for the past six years but progression wasn’t helped by “a very difficult three years” in the civil and structural engineering industry.

Chatfield said: “The last three years have been very difficult – but we are beginning to see improvements in some areas now. Drakelow Park will enable Roger Bullivant to stay in South Derbyshire, as we’ve begun to expand, and need a larger base. We’ll be able to expand above and beyond once the site is completed.”

Roger Bulliant is currently based on land adjacent to the planned Drakelow Park development, and the company will expand into the new site once it has been completed. The planning application, which was submitted by the owners of the land, Roger Bullivant and E.On UK, was resolved to be granted by South Derbyshire District Council last week.

The scheme includes 2,239 houses, a school, health centre and an employment park.

Roger Bullivant had to satisfy the requests for a green transport system from Staffordshire and Derbyshire district councils as well as the Highways Agency.

Chatfield said: “We went to great lengths to put together a multimillion pound transport system. We’re in the process of finalising the agreement between ourselves and South Derbyshire District Council. Once that’s finalised, we will get full planning permission.”

Chatfield confirmed that work should start on the scheme in 2011.
