Overseas expansion on the horizon for Sea-Band
A manufacturing firm based in Hinckley is to begin distributing its product in the Far East following a market visit. Sea-Band, which produces a knitted elasticated wrist band to stop sickness, says it is planning to source a distributor in Japan.
Sea-Band joined seven other companies from across the East Midlands to take part in the Far East visit, which was organised by UK Trade and Investment.
The company, which specialises in easing nausea in chemotherapy patients, travel, anaesthesia and pregnancy, joined the trip which helped businesses look at Japan as a potential market for their products.
Byron Chatburn, managing director of Sea-Band, said the aim of the visit was to gain a better understanding of the market, and gather contacts. He added: “Having been on the visit, I am confident that Sea-Band is definitely right for the Japanese market and I plan to get another OMIS [overseas market introduction] report produced and go back to Japan to source a distributor.”
Peter Hogarth, International Trade Director for UKTI East Midlands, said: “Seventy-five per cent of the companies which visited Japan had used UKTI’s Overseas Market Introduction Service (OMIS) to identify potential clients so it was a really good opportunity for them to meet the people who had written the reports.”
