Time running out for LEP proposal, says Cowcher
George Cowcher, the chief executive of the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Chamber of Commerce, has said the adoption of a pan-county Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) puts the two regions in “a very strong position".
That was the message at a LEP consultation event held at the University of Derbyshire Enterprise Centre yesterday morning in front of an audience of about 100, mainly from private sector.
However, Cowcher warned: “We have no clarity about how much budget we have for the new LEP, nor do we have clarity on what any new organisation will be able to do. What we have to do is get our proposals to Vince Cable and Eric Pickles by 6 September. Time is running out.”
Cowcher revealed that there has been a draft proposal drawn up by the four main players driving forward the LEP and that he had only read it for the first time that morning.
“We need more business input into our proposals,” he said.
